A local competition facilitates the gathering of vocal talent from  the area. “Alki Idol” brings five weeks of auditions to Alki Beach, with two weeks of semi-finals, and a fierce final week of finals. The victor emerges with the Alki Idol title, and reigns as Supreme Leader until the following season produces a new deity.

The Funblog – with its collective sensitive ear to the ground, always scanning the horizon for the next big thing – has discovered the heir apparent.

We take great pride in endorsing our talented FunFriend, Shawn Hurst as the next Alki Idol.

You may remember Shawn from the now famous “Sexy Dave Blank” exclusive Funblog video posted back on November 06, 2009 where she charms the socks off all West Seattle and shows her fun side.

“I think I’m going to be on a YouTube video”, says Shawn. She closes the scene with her patented scene closing pose.

The Funblog had the good fortune to bear witness to Shawn’s vocal talents during a Yen Wor karaoke performance of the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys hit, Empire State of Mind. We were totally blown away by her vocal prowess and flawless performance of this powerful and popular anthem.
