Nuclear Test In Olympic Mountains Witnessed From Alki

ALKINUKE_smallWEST SEATTLE, Washington, May 17, 2009 (WSFB) – Several people enjoying the beautiful West Seattle weather at Alki this weekend were shocked when a mushroom cloud appeared to the west (map) around sunset Saturday evening.

Preliminary reports identify this as a tactical nuclear weapon, between 15-100 Kiloton (KT).

“You could feel the radiant heat from the blast”, said Nord Torglesen, visiting Alki while on holiday from Norway. “I returned from Ballard where I received the most affordable haircut I’ve ever had – $1 (US) per side!” Torglesen added, “..and that’s when we saw the cloud and felt the blast.”

A rollerblader and two joggers also witnessed the event. “This isn’t the sort of thing we value in the Pacific Northwest”, said the rollerblader. “I used to protest this sort of thing over at Bangor in the 1980’s.”

One of the joggers approached our reporter to express their concern, “we’re really hoping this doesn’t affect the salmon.”

The SPD Alki precinct could not be reached for comment as both officers were on bike patrol at the time of the blast.

WSFB is in the process of confirming the details with the US Military at this time. Stand by for further details.
