WEST SEATTLE, Washington, June 27, 2009 (WSFB) – A local bench saved an infant drowning in a nearby puddle earlier today, much to the chagrin of a garbage can and water fountain.
At approximately 2:11PM PDT (GMT-8:00) an infant from a local orphanage escaped and crossed Fauntleroy Way then made it deep into Lincoln Park where it located a 2.5-inch deep puddle left over from last night’s torrential downpour and began to splash and play in it. Several minutes later the baby fell face first into the puddle according to several witnesses who stood by in amazement but did nothing to help.
This is when the bench straddled into action and retrieved the baby from the puddle and began administering first-aid. Onlookers called 911 and an aid car arrived within minutes.
The baby was transported to West Seattle Regional General Hosital and is reported as being in stable condition.
“We’ve never seen park furniture behave this way” says Jhonnie Blanch of the West Seattle Park Board. “We are contacting the manufacturer to see if we can acquire more of these as soon as possible so we can install them at all local parks.”
The West Seattle orphanage could not be reached for comment.
