Green Piece: West Seattle To Ban Toilet Paper

WSFB_TPBANWEST SEATTLE, Washington, September 27, 2009 (WSFB) – The West Seattle City Council has adopted an initiative put forth by the Citizens United for Natural Technology to ban the sale and use of toilet paper starting January 01, 2010.

This will reduce over 3 million pounds of solid waste per year and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of water treatment at all nine local water treatment plants by more than 60% due to the diminished volume of paper material that requires additional processing prior to release in Puget Sound.

As an alternative to toilet paper, the West Seattle City Council has brokered a deal with the French Government to secure 50,000 bidets that will attach to any standard toilet seat and water inlet assembly. The bidet is expected to be made available at a discounted price of $21.00.

From the consumer perspective, the ban will save the average household nearly $1,000.00 annually and will only marginally affect water usage and respective rates.

This move is being touted by Governor Grimoire as a “positive move in a green direction for our children, and our children’s children.”
