WEST SEATTLE, Washington June 25, 2009 (WSFB) – Washington State Department of Transportation launched their new ad campaign titled “Are you H.O.V. Positive?” in an effort to create awareness for the use of H.O.V. lanes on I-5, I-405, I-90 & Hwy 520. Chief Marketing Officer, Timothy Baggin, stated that H.O.V. use has steadily declined in the past 3-4 years and they were looking for a slogan that embodies their message. “What we’re asking is for people to test themselves. Before you stick your key in the hole, look at what you’re doing and count. Count how many people are in your car. Sometimes you need 2, but sometimes you need 3. I personally enjoy 3 because it fills all of the seats in my car”, stated Mr. Baggin.
Independent studies by WSFB support WSDOT’s claims that H.O.V. use is on the decline. WSFB took a random poll in front of Big Al’s this past weekend and confirmed that not many people are utilizing the lanes or they are driving in the lanes improperly. West Seattle resident, Viktor Spelunkaby, shared “I just don’t like driving with other people, especially with women. If I have to drive with someone, I’d drive with another man. Alki Beach resident, Shelby Unger, offered this….”I like the new slogan and think that it will encourage people to drive more so that they are H.O.V. positive. I’ve been H.O.V. positive for many years”.
The new slogan will initially be splashed on billboards and distributed via viral video.
