ROCK4RELIEF SPOTLIGHT: Conversation With Jay Cates From Bend

WSFB_BEND_EZST2009WEST SEATTLE, Washington, January 21, 2010 (WSFB) – West Seattle band Bend will be performing on Thursday January 28, 2010 at the ROCK4RELIEF concert to benefit the Haiti earthquake relief effort at the Showbox Sodo.

Bend frontman, Jay Cates, took some time to chat with me and answer a few quick questions about the Haiti disaster, the impact, and his motivation to play for the cause.

WSFB: How has the tragedy in Haiti affected you?

Jay Cates: It’s been at the forefront of my brain, the only thing people have been able to focus on. It’s a horrible tragedy, but it’s amazing how something like this can unite people. It’s cool to see people actually be proactive and physically help.

Not trying to turn a negative into a positive, but it’s good to see positives come out of it.

WSFB: Why are you donating your time and talent to this effort? How did you become involved?

JC: Jamie mentioned that he wanted to get something together and we immediately wanted to do it. I don’t see how you could not want to do it.

I’d rather play for a good cause than play for a big party; the reason I have a band is to create beauty and love, and if you can use it with that kind of concept – of course.

WSFB: Anything you’d like to say to fans out there about this concert?

JC:I would really encourage people to come and show their support. You should stop by, or at least buy a ticket. Either way, contribute to the cause.

And contribute to the cause they will. Come check out Bend along with a host of other great bands at the Showbox Sodo Lounge on January 28th!
