Remembering James Brown One Thousand Days Later

WSFB_JAMESBROWN1000WEST SEATTLE, Washington, September 18, 2009 (WSFB) – This Saturday marks 1000 days without James Brown. Known as the “Godfather of Soul”, James Brown redefined popular music with his distinct voice, dancing prowess, and trend-setting horn section compositions. He also transcended mutliple genres including gospel, soul, blues, and funk.

One thousand days doesn’t seem like a long time, but if you played “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” back to back to back starting the moment of his death on Christmas Day, 2006, you would have heard the song 680,315 times. Yes, I did the math. Granted, that’s a bit heavy on the New Bag, even for this James Brown fan. But give the man his due.

With a career spanning 6 decades, Brown was known as the hardest working man in”¦. (enter Kanye West) “Yo, Pete. I’m happy for you and I’mma let you finish, but James Brown was the hardest working man in show business”. I know Kanye. I just said that.

When asked her opinion on the Godfather of Soul, Pink is quoted as saying, “”Kanye West is the biggest piece of s*** on earth. Quote Me.” This isn’t going well. Let me try another tack.

James Brown once said, “I’m not going to be joining ZZ Top. You know they can’t play my stuff. It’s too complicated.” Er, uh”¦. What? We’re getting way off track here.

Asked his thoughts on the career of James Brown, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top said, “Now Pete, I’m happy for you writing your little blog and all, and I’mma let you finish, but James Brown was the hardest working man in show business and his shit was complicated.” Fuck it.

Join the West Seattle Fun Blog Crew at the Feedback Lounge this Saturday at 7:00 to celebrate the life of James Brown, 1000 days after it ended. It’ll make you feel good, you little sex machines.
