There is a peculiar looking fungus growing in my front yard, and I’d like to know if it’s okay to eat it. Any thoughts?

Without a visual inspection, I would have to say no. I know it’s all about the fun these days, but the fact that you describe Gus as peculiar, gives me reason to pause. You do state he’s a grower, not a shower. That could be a bonus. Although, as an official funblog representative, I’m required to state that size doesn’t matter. Exactly how big is fun Gus? No, no, doesn’t matter. I think the thing to do, is gently pull up from the base, and take your specimen to someone who can perform a proper servicing.
